About
The University of Sussex Symphony Orchestra present an eclectic, epic and truly international summer celebration concert.
French composer and pianist Cecile Chaminade’s music for the ballet, Callirhoë, combines delicate orchestrations with romantic melodies and sparkling dance music.
English composer Chris Ricketts is a member of the orchestra – we present two movements from his recent composition.
German composer Beethoven’s fifth symphony is one of the most iconic pieces of classical music ever written, and widely reflected and quoted in media and popular culture. It is also an exciting and dramatic piece to play, beginning with a distinctive four-note "short-short-short-long" motif, often characterized as "fate knocking at the door", and also including a poignant and moving slow movement, and a dramatic and exciting finale.
Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi is celebrated for over 100 film scores, including for Hayao Miyazaki's animation films for Studio Ghibli. His musical style mixes classical and modern harmonies to create a highly distinctive soundworld.
