About
Brighton Festival: Transgressive Body Workshop
by Jaamil Olawale Kosoko
Led by artist Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, this inclusive interdisciplinary performance making workshop will explore cultural divisions within our current political landscape. It will challenge how we approach narratives of freedom in a culturally oppressive system.
The workshop is inclusive and open to all. Disabled and QTPOC creative practitioners are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Attendees: please bring along costumes, objects and other materials that will help visually transform your appearance.
Transgressive Bodies is presented in association with the performance Séancers, which will be shown at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts on 16 and 17 May as part of the Brighton Festival programme.
Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts and The Marlborough Pub & Theatre are working with Jaamil Olawale Kosoko throughout 2019 on the project Black Joy - a development programme for LGBTQ+ artists of colour supported by Diverse Actions and Live Art UK. Diverse Actions is a three-year initiative, supported through Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence fund, championing culturally diverse ambition, excellence and talent in Live Art.
